Blueberry Hill Banana Bread

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
2 1/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup sour milk (buttermilk)

Cream butter with grnulated sugar until it is smooth, no longer granular. Beat the eggs well. Ad to the butter-sugar mixture, one after the other, vanilla, grated lemon rind, beaten eggs, and mashed bananas.

Sift together onto a sheet of waxed paper the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Alternatingly, and in small amounts, add dry ingredients and sour milk or cream to the banana mixture, beating after each addition. Batter will be very, very thick.

Turn the batter into 2 greased and floured (or lined with paper) bread pans. Bake in a moderate (350 F) oven 40 to 45 minutes.
